The Pride of Lagratia

Artemis sat in the den she shared with Davinci who had become like a father to her. She had learned to trust him and care for him like family. She sat there cleaning her fur. Ever since Davinci found her a few weeks ago she had gained some weight and she looked healthier. The wound on her leg was almost completely healed, and her fur was no longer a matted filthy mess that it used to be. She was still much smaller than a normal wolf her age but at least she looked healthier now. Her fur had a shine to it as did her eyes. There was a happy look to her face.

She was almost done grooming herself when she heard the familiar paw steps of Davinci. Looking up she saw him walk in with a large black bird in his mouth. Her tail began wagging from side to side, she was happy to see her father. She ran up to him and began circling him waiting for him to set the bird down. When he did she game a happy bark and began ripping the feathers out. The feathers could be used for bedding to make the bed softer.

When Davinci told her they had much to do with little sunlight left she looked up with several black feathers sticking out of her mouth which made her sneeze. Artemis gave a shake of her head than looked back to her dad. A look of curiosity came over her face. "What are we doing?" After asking her question she turned her attention back to the bird while she waited for her father's reply. Once she had cleared enough feathers away she began tearing chunks of flesh off the bird. She ate quickly ever since she had almost starved to death she always ate like she would never see another meal again. Maybe someday she would slow down but for now she wanted to get as much food in her body as fast as she could.

Davinci

Artemis smiled up at her dad as he started laughing which made her laugh as well. This was the happiest she had been since her family had died in front of her. She remembered the first week with Davinci she was afraid to trust him and he had to convince her every day that he meant her no harm and that she was safe now. She didn't truly start trusting him until she had been with him for almost two weeks. She finally began to realize that she was safe and that she never had to be alone again. She had a home and someone who cared for her. It took her a while but she finally began to slowly return to her old self. She still wasn't one hundred percent herself yet. Every night she had nightmares about that horrible and had ever since the day. But even they where coming less often. She had the dream last night but she hadn't had it the night before and it was all thanks to Davinci.

Looking up from the bird she smiled at her dad as he called her little bird. She always liked it when he called her that. "Sorry father I'll do better next time." She knew he was trying to be strict even though he was having trouble hiding the smile. She wanted to make him proud he was all she had, and she would probably be dead if it hadn't been for him. When he began licking her face she giggled.

Artemis stood up and stretched her legs out ready to go. When Davinci told her what they where going to do that day her eyes lit up with excitement and a hint of her old curiosity, which she quickly smothered. She still felt that it was probably her curious and adventurous trait that brought the wolves to her family. But this time she wasn't wondering off on her own or leading her siblings off to go exploring. She was going with her new father. "I can't wait to hear how our pack was made."

When he asked if she was ready she gave a nod of her head and ran out of the den ready to go where ever they where going. "So where are we going dad?" Her tail wagged as they walked, she was ready to run though she pranced a bit raring to get ready.
